La Nueva Escuela Virtual

The challenge

Schools in Puerto Rico needed to keep teaching remotely through real emergencies —the 2020 earthquakes and then COVID-19— without losing track of each student.

Teachers with little digital experience needed a simple tool, with standards-aligned content that also worked for special education.

The solution

A platform “created by teachers for teachers”, organized in 4 steps:

  • Planning: study groups and diagnostic tests to know each student’s level.
  • My Dynamic Class: tools to teach in an engaging way.
  • My Assignments: homework with automatic grading.
  • Assessment: analytics that record everything students do, with reports by user role.

A support network was added with weekly webinars, chat and phone assistance, and 24/7 video tutorials.

Brand and launch. We designed the La Nueva Escuela Virtual identity (a book made of tablets bound by a spiral) and the “Aquí puedes” (“Here you can”) campaign: the institutional catalog, banners, device pieces and the trade-show stand, with a giant suspended cursor pointing to where visitors try the platform.

Results

Thousands of students and teachers stayed connected during the earthquakes in Puerto Rico, and NEV became one of the most effective platforms during COVID-19. Principals and teachers from Vieques, Guánica and Yauco highlight the continuity of learning and the team’s support.
