Social media for small businesses: a simple strategy you can sustain
21 de July, 2026 · Digital business
You don’t need to be on every network or post every day. Goals, content pillars and a realistic calendar so your social media works for your business.
According to DataReportal’s Digital 2026 report, Argentina has around 33 million social media user identities, over 70% of the population. Your customers are there. The problem is many small businesses post “whenever they can”, without direction, and give up after three months. A simple, sustainable strategy beats an ambitious one that lasts two weeks.
1. Define what you want social media for
Getting known, getting inquiries and getting repeat purchases are different things. Choose one main goal and measure against it: reach, messages received, clicks to the website or sales.
2. Choose where to be
Two well-tended networks beat five abandoned ones. For most Argentine small businesses, Instagram and Facebook are still the core; LinkedIn helps if you sell to companies; TikTok and YouTube, if you can keep up with video. And WhatsApp Business, while not a social network, is where many sales close.
3. Build your content pillars
Pillars are the 3 or 4 topics you’ll always talk about. For example:
- Educate: tips and answers to your customers’ frequent questions.
- Show: products, finished work, before and after.
- Humanize: the team, behind the scenes, your values.
- Convert: promotions, launches, calls to action.
With pillars defined, you’ll never again ask yourself “what do I post today?”.
4. A calendar you can keep
Two or three posts a week sustained for a year are worth more than one a day for a month. Plan the month ahead, produce content in batches (one afternoon of photos lasts weeks) and leave room for spontaneous posts.
5. Take care of your visual identity
Templates with your colors and typefaces make every post recognizable as yours in half a second of scrolling, and they save you time.
6. Have conversations
Social media is social. Reply to comments and messages quickly, in the brand’s tone. An inquiry answered within an hour has far better odds of becoming a sale than one answered the next day.
7. Measure once a month
See which posts worked best for your goal, do more of that and less of what doesn’t perform. Don’t obsess over followers: a hundred potential customers are worth more than ten thousand accounts that will never buy from you.
Social media doesn’t replace your website
Social networks are borrowed ground: the algorithm changes, an account can be blocked, reach drops. Your website is your home. The strategy that works best uses social media to attract and the website to convert: the link in bio leads to a page built for that.
